Choral Ensembles

CHORAL MUSIC AT VC

The 51AV��Ƶ Choirs (directed by Brent Wilson, accompanied by Mark Holmstrom) are dedicated to developing the choral artistry of a wide array of student singers (music majors and non-music majors) with diverse and engaging repertoire. This semester the choirs will sing Maurice �ٳܰ��ܴڱ�é'�� Requiem as well as Jocelyn �Ჹ��’s The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci.

In recent semesters the choirs have partnered with the VC English department and the Applied Music program to present a program of solo and choral musical settings of poems by Emily Dickinson, and a program of musical settings of texts by Maya Angelou. The choirs have also presented choral song cycles including Frostiana by Randall Thompson and large-scale works with orchestra and soloists including Vivaldi's Gloria, Handel's Messiah, and PDQ Bach's mock oratorio, The Seasonings.

The 51AV��Ƶ Chorus performs a cappella and accompanied pieces representing musical styles from Baroque to contemporary, including multicultural choral works representing music of the world. The group also joins the College Singers and the VC Opera/Musical Theatre and Instrumental Programs for larger works. There are usually between two and four performances each semester. The Concert Chorus may also perform at 51AV��Ƶ functions including graduation. For more information on the College Chorus’s recent repertoire, please see our Recent Performances page. The 51AV��Ƶ Singers is a select vocal ensemble. This is an advanced vocal ensemble whose members are predominantly Music Scholarship recipients, music majors or minors. The group also joins the College Chorus and the VC Opera/Musical Theatre and Instrumental Programs for larger works. There are usually between two and four performances each semester. The Concert Chorus may also perform at 51AV��Ƶ functions including graduation. Field trips may be required.
