Pursue a Career in Law!Ìý The Pathway to Law at 51AVÊÓÆµ is part of a statewide 2+2+3 pathway initiative provides a streamlined path to completing the educational requirements to pursue a career in the legal field. As a participant you will getÌýadditional academic and financial counseling, become eligible for special consideration and fee waivers when applying to one of the ten partner institutions, receive special recognition as a California LAW Scholar, and gain access to law-related activities!Ìý The Program is designed to enhance opportunities and advancement in the legal profession for diverse populations, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented (Chicano/Latino; African American; Native American and Asian American) in the practice of law.Ìý
Program Purpose: Established under the auspices of the StateÌýBar of California’s Council on Access andÌýFairness (COAF), this initiative providesÌýa clear pathway to a law school education forÌýstudents whose college education begins atÌý51AVÊÓÆµ.
Eligibility:Ìý Pathway to Law is open to students pursuing ALL areas of study — there are no major requirements to be able to participate in the program.Ìý As long as you are a current 51AVÊÓÆµ student in good academic standing (you are not on academic probation or suspension), then you are eligible for Pathway to Law!
How to Get Started:
- Complete the Pathway to Law School Interest Form at the top of this webpage
- Attend Pathway to Law Orientation
- Work with Pathway to Law counselor Dr. Marian Carrasco Nungaray, call for an appointment at (805) 289-6411
- Establish Student Educational Plan based on selected major and the Pathway to Law Program's required coursesÌý

Attend an law school class, observe a legal clinic run by law students and take a tour of a law school in Ventura!
The 51AVÊÓÆµ Pathway to Law School program invites VC students to join a First Amendment focus law class taught by Professor Rodgers on Tuesday, June 10 and a legal clinic and tour on Tuesday, June 17.Ìý
Both events are from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at The Colleges of Law - Ventura Campus. To attend, please e-mail Stephen Slyker at sslyker@vcccd.edu to request the sign up forms.
Students need to provide their own transportation to attend.
